Uruguay has become the first Latin American nation to legalise euthanasia, marking a significant milestone in bioethics and human rights within the region. The legislation permits medically assisted dying for patients suffering from incurable illnesses that cause unbearable pain, following five years of national debate and ethical discussion. This move reflects a growing recognition of patient autonomy and the right to die with dignity, setting a precedent for other countries in the region. Uruguay’s law balances medical, ethical, and legal considerations while advancing humane healthcare practices.

India and Brazil have agreed to expand their Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) under the MERCOSUR framework, aiming to cover a broader range of sectors and products. The India–MERCOSUR Framework Agreement was originally signed in 2003, followed by the PTA in 2004, which became effective in 2009. MERCOSUR, established in 1991, includes Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay as full members. This expansion signifies a strengthening of economic ties between India and Brazil, promoting greater trade cooperation, market access, and bilateral economic engagement, while leveraging the regional integration of South America under MERCOSUR.

India has extended medical assistance to Indonesia by gifting Prussian Blue Capsules, which are essential in treating internal contamination caused by radioactive substances like Cesium-137 and thallium. These capsules bind radioactive materials within the body and help remove them safely, reducing health risks associated with radiation exposure. Pakistan has extended an offer to the United States to develop and operate Port Pasni, situated in the Gwadar district of Balochistan. This strategic port, located along the Arabian Sea, lies approximately 113 km east of the China-operated Gwadar Port and 286 km from Iran’s Chabahar Port. The initiative aims to boost bilateral trade and give the US a foothold in accessing critical minerals, reinforcing regional economic cooperation and maritime connectivity.

UNESCO launched the Virtual Museum of Stolen Cultural Objects during MONDIACULT 2025, a pioneering global initiative aimed at combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property. The project was developed in response to calls from Member States for coordinated international efforts to protect cultural heritage. Financially supported by Saudi Arabia, the museum is implemented in collaboration with INTERPOL, which plays a crucial role in tracing, recovering, and preventing the illegal trade of stolen artifacts.
