The innovation uses machine learning to identify the most effective Dual-Atom Catalyst (DAC) for nitrate electroreduction. This technology operates at room temperature with renewable electricity and achieves nearly three times the efficiency of earlier methods. The process is environmentally significant because it helps reduce water pollution, limits eutrophication in aquatic ecosystems, and lowers carbon emissions associated with traditional ammonia production. It also serves as an eco-friendly alternative to the conventional Haber-Bosch process, which requires fossil fuels, high temperatures, and extreme pressure.

Q Manivannan, originally from Tamil Nadu, achieved a historic milestone by winning a seat in the Scottish Parliament in 2026 as a representative of the Scottish Green Party.
