India and France elevated their bilateral ties to a "Special Global Strategic Partnership" during President Emmanuel Macron's visit to India in February 2026. The partnership builds upon a long-standing relationship that began with the establishment of a Strategic Partnership in 1998, making France the first Western nation to do so with India. The upgraded framework includes the Horizon 2047 roadmap, a 25-year cooperation plan covering areas such as space technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, critical technologies, and Indo-Pacific security. Collaboration between ISRO and France's space agency CNES, along with growing commercial space partnerships, further strengthens the strategic importance of this relationship.

India and Nepal operationalized a peer-to-peer (P2P) cross-border remittance mechanism on June 6, 2026, enabling real-time digital money transfers between the two countries. The initiative connects India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with Nepal's National Payments Interface (NPI), allowing users to make instant and secure transactions through mobile banking applications and digital wallets. The integration was implemented by NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL). This development strengthens digital financial connectivity, facilitates cross-border commerce, benefits travellers by reducing the need for currency exchange, and supports broader financial inclusion and economic cooperation between India and Nepal.

The Blue Valley Cluster was jointly launched by the Government of Assam and the European Union to strengthen sustainable value chains and innovation ecosystems in the North-East region of India. The initiative focuses on sectors such as flavours, fragrances, AYUSH products, agarwood, and organic foods. A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Assam Industrial Development Corporation Limited (AIDC) and the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI) to promote investment, business collaboration, and knowledge exchange. The project aims to connect farmers, self-help groups, and startups with global markets while encouraging industrial cooperation in advanced technology sectors.

The 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 9, 2026. The conference brought together representatives from different countries to discuss labour-related issues and policies. India, led by Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, participated actively and highlighted priorities such as inclusive growth, gender equality, and social dialogue. Geneva is an important global centre for international diplomacy and labour affairs. It is also the headquarters of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), which was established in 1919 and is known for promoting workers' rights, social justice, and cooperation among governments, employers, and workers worldwide.

Malaysia’s national oil and gas company, Petronas, signed a long-term agreement with JERA, one of the world’s largest LNG buyers, to supply liquefied natural gas for 20 years. Under the deal, Petronas will provide 2 million tons of LNG annually, with deliveries beginning in 2028. The agreement aims to strengthen Japan’s energy security and ensure a stable supply of natural gas. In addition to energy cooperation, both countries agreed to enhance bilateral trade using local currencies and collaborate in areas such as critical minerals, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, defence, and fertiliser feedstock supply chains.
