World Book and Copyright Day and World English Language Day were celebrated all over the world. Every year 23 April is celebrated as World Book and Copyright Day. On 23 April 1616 Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other eminent authors like Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejia Vallejo. At the UNESCO's General Conference held in Paris in 1995, 23 April was declared as World Book and Copyright Day. This day is observed to pay tribute to books and authors and encourage everyone to read. Every year, UNESCO and the international organizations representing the three major sectors of book industry: publishers, booksellers and libraries, select the World Book Capital for a one-year period effective 23 April each year. World Book Capital for 2018: Athens, Greece. The 2018 edition of World Book and Copyright Day is entitled: "READING, it's my right!".
