World Braille Day is celebrated annually on January 4th to honour Louis Braille, the inventor of the tactile script that has transformed communication for visually impaired individuals. The Braille system, which uses six dots to represent letters, numbers, and symbols, has been instrumental in providing access to education and opportunities for blind individuals worldwide. The observance also highlights the importance of inclusivity and accessibility for the visually impaired population, which, as per the 2011 Census, includes over 50 lakh individuals in India.
