International Red Panda Day 2025 will be observed on September 20, which falls on the third Saturday of September. This global observance was launched in 2010 by the Red Panda Network to highlight the urgent need for conservation of the endangered red panda, often referred to as the “Firefox.” With fewer than 10,000 individuals left in the wild, the red panda faces threats such as habitat loss, poaching, and low reproduction rates. Celebrating the day on September 20 draws international attention, generates support for conservation projects, and strengthens community-led initiatives to protect this rare and captivating Himalayan species.

World Bamboo Day 2025 will be observed on September 18 to raise awareness about bamboo’s ecological, cultural, and economic importance. First celebrated in 2009 during the 8th World Bamboo Congress in Bangkok, the day is coordinated by the World Bamboo Organization. The 2025 theme, “Next Generation Bamboo: Solution, Innovation, and Design”, highlights bamboo’s potential in climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, and modern design. India, one of the largest bamboo producers, plays a key role through initiatives like the National Bamboo Mission, which promotes bamboo cultivation, processing, and innovation. International Equal Pay Day is observed annually on September 18 to highlight the global issue of the gender pay gap and the need for equal pay for equal work. Despite advances in gender equality, women worldwide still earn about 20% less than men, with structural and cultural factors such as occupational segregation, unpaid care work, and stereotypes contributing to this disparity. The observance, backed by the United Nations, ILO, and UN Women, is linked to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). It emphasises that closing the pay gap strengthens economic resilience, productivity, and social justice.

World Patient Safety Day is observed every year on September 17 as a global initiative led by the World Health Organization. Established in 2019, the day seeks to highlight the critical importance of ensuring safe healthcare practices, reducing preventable harm, and promoting accountability in medical systems. In 2025, the theme focuses on “Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child,” emphasizing the protection of vulnerable groups such as infants and young children. The observance not only raises awareness but also encourages collaboration among healthcare providers, policymakers, and patients to strengthen systems for safer, more reliable care worldwide.

The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is observed annually on September 16. The United Nations General Assembly declared this date in 1994 to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987. This treaty became the first in history to achieve universal ratification in 2009, underscoring its global importance. The observance highlights the ongoing efforts to protect the ozone layer, which shields life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation. The 2025 theme, “From science to global action,” emphasises the critical link between research and international cooperation.
