April 5 is observed every year as National Maritime Day in India to recognize the importance of the maritime sector in the nation’s development and global trade. The date commemorates the historic voyage of the SS Loyalty in 1919, the first Indian-owned ship that sailed from Mumbai to London. This day highlights the vital contributions of seafarers, port authorities, and maritime organizations in ensuring smooth international trade and connectivity. It also reflects India’s rich maritime heritage and emphasizes the sector’s role in economic growth and progress.

April 4 is observed annually as the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action. The day focuses on raising awareness about the dangers posed by landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices, which continue to threaten civilian lives even after conflicts end. Established by the United Nations, it emphasises the importance of mine clearance, victim assistance, and global cooperation. The observance also highlights the need for sustained investment in mine action initiatives, which are essential for restoring safe living conditions, supporting humanitarian efforts, and enabling long-term peace and development.

April 2 is observed globally as World Autism Awareness Day to foster understanding, promote acceptance, and support individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Established by the United Nations in 2007 and first observed in 2008, this day plays a crucial role in raising awareness and breaking social stigmas associated with autism. It also emphasises the importance of inclusion and equal opportunities for the neurodivergent community. While April 2 is the main observance day, the entire month is recognized as Autism Awareness Month, extending outreach efforts across schools, workplaces, and healthcare institutions.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy extended the completion deadline for certain PM-KUSUM projects to March 31, 2027. This decision was taken due to difficulties faced in achieving financial closure, mainly because of limited lending by banks and financial institutions. The revised deadline applies to projects where Power Purchase Agreements or Notices to Proceed were issued on or before December 31, 2025. The extension ensures that ongoing projects receive adequate time for completion and aligns them with future developments under the upcoming PM-KUSUM 2.0 framework.

The day emphasises the importance of meteorology in understanding weather, climate, and water systems. It highlights how accurate weather data supports disaster preparedness, agriculture, aviation, and environmental protection. The 2026 theme, “Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow,” underscores the role of continuous monitoring and advanced technologies in mitigating climate risks. Celebrating this day also promotes global cooperation in sharing weather data and improving forecasting systems for a safer and more sustainable future.
