World Habitat Day is observed annually on the first Monday of October to highlight the state of human settlements and the right to adequate shelter. In 2025, it falls on October 6. UIDAI has waived all charges for Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBUs) for children aged 7–15 years, effective from October 1, 2025, for one year. This policy aims to simplify access to Aadhaar-based welfare services for nearly 6 crore children across India. Biometric updates, which include fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs, are essential for accurate identity authentication as children grow. The fee waiver ensures that updates can be completed without financial burden, even if the update is done outside the previously recommended age windows, supporting inclusion and ease of access to public services.

In 2025, World Animal Day marks its 100th anniversary, with the theme “Save Animals, Save the Planet,” emphasizing the interconnection between protecting animals and sustaining the Earth’s ecosystems.

The International Day of Older Persons is observed every year on October 1, following the United Nations General Assembly’s 1990 resolution (45/106). The 2025 theme, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being and Our Rights”, highlights the active role of older persons in shaping societies, promoting health equity, financial stability, and community resilience. The observance emphasises not only protecting the rights and dignity of older individuals but also recognizing them as vital contributors to social, cultural, and economic progress. It aligns with the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, promoting inclusivity for all ages.

The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is observed annually on September 29. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2019, the day aims to raise global awareness about the impact of food loss and waste on sustainable consumption and production patterns. It aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 12, specifically Target 12.3, which seeks to halve food waste at retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains by 2030. Observing this day highlights the importance of responsible food management, resource conservation, and reducing environmental impact worldwide.
