Bonalu is a vibrant Hindu folk festival celebrated predominantly in the Indian state of Telangana, especially in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The 2025 celebrations began at the historic Golconda Fort with traditional rituals at the Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Temple. Known for its deep cultural and spiritual significance, Bonalu involves offerings to Goddess Mahankali, colourful processions, and performances by fire-breathers and Potharajus. The Telangana government actively supports the festival, allocating ₹20 crore for temple grants and participating in rituals, underscoring its importance as a state-recognized cultural heritage event.
