The Delhi government has implemented a complete ban on the production, sale, and use of firecrackers to address air pollution, particularly during the winter season. This measure, effective until January 1, 2025, is part of a broader 'Winter Action Plan' designed to reduce pollution levels and promote eco-friendly practices. A bird flu outbreak caused by the H5N1 strain of avian influenza was reported in Pipili town, Puri district, Odisha. As a response to the outbreak, over 11,700 chickens were culled to prevent the further spread of the virus. The virus was confirmed by the National Institute of High-Security Animal Disease. Similar incidents have been previously reported in Kerala and Maharashtra, highlighting the ongoing threat of avian influenza in India. Jaldapara National Park, located in West Bengal, has reported the unfortunate deaths of five rhino cubs in 2023. These deaths are suspected to be caused by a tapeworm infestation, as confirmed by forest officials. This incident raised concerns among conservationists, as the park is renowned for its population of one-horned rhinoceroses. The park authorities are now focused on addressing the tapeworm threat to prevent further losses in the rhino population, which is a critical species in the region.

The Centre for Narmada River Basin Management (cNARMADA) was established by IIT Gandhinagar in collaboration with IIT Indore, with support from the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The centre focuses on assessing and managing the Narmada River’s ecosystem through a comprehensive Condition Assessment and Management Plan. The study aims to address the impacts of industrial activities, urbanization, deforestation, and infrastructure developments on the river basin, ensuring sustainable management of this vital water resource.
