Santiniketan is a town in West Bengal, India, founded by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore as an experiment in education and art. It is home to Visva-Bharati University, a world-renowned institution of higher learning. Santiniketan was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019.

The IIT Council, representing higher-education institutes in India, has entered into an MoU with the Association of American Universities (AAU) to establish the Indo-US Global Challenges Institute to address significant economic, environmental, and technological challenges.

International Literacy Day is celebrated on September 8th to promote the importance of literacy for dignity and human rights. It is celebrated by UNESCO at global, regional, and local levels. The theme for Literacy Day 2023 is ‘Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies’.

The Union Home Ministry has approved a 10% horizontal reservation for government school graduates in Puducherry pursuing undergraduate medical education. This reservation policy, effective immediately, will benefit students who have cleared the NEET examination and completed their education in government schools starting from standard one.

Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister for Education, launched the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Program in India on September 6, 2023. The program is a collaboration between the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education. It aims to improve the quality of teacher training in India by providing tailored training programs for teachers in higher education institutions.
