The iDEX scheme (Innovations for Defence Excellence) was launched by the Ministry of Defence to promote innovation and modernization in the Defence and Aerospace sectors. It encourages startups, MSMEs, and individual innovators to engage in research and development, providing them with funding and technical support through partnerships with leading incubators. Managed by the Defence Innovation Organization (DIO), the iDEX scheme aims to develop military-grade products and advanced technologies that meet the critical needs of the Indian Armed Forces. The Ministry is now seeking additional funds to continue the scheme beyond 2021-26.

India has entered into a significant $3.5-billion defence agreement with the United States to purchase 31 MQ-9B drones, which include 16 Sky Guardian and 15 Sea Guardian models. This deal is part of India’s efforts to strengthen its military capabilities, particularly in response to rising concerns related to China. The drones will be distributed across India's military branches, with 15 going to the Navy and the remaining eight being shared between the Army and Air Force. This acquisition is conducted through the foreign military sales framework, reflecting the growing defence cooperation between India and the US.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for the Navy's Very Low Frequency (VLF) radar station in Vikarabad, Telangana, to ensure uninterrupted information flow for effective command and control, and enhance military capabilities and communication between maritime forces and command centres. Vikarabad, a town and Mandal in the Vikarabad district of Telangana is known for its historical significance and natural attractions, including the Ananthagiri Hills and the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple.

The Battle of Walong took place in 1962 during the Sino-Indian War. The Indian Army is marking the 62nd anniversary of this significant battle with a month-long series of events starting from October 17 to November 14, 2024. The remembrance will include the inauguration of the renovated Walong War Memorial and key infrastructure projects. The commemoration honours the bravery of the soldiers who fought in this crucial battle along the northeastern frontier of India, highlighting the historical importance of the year 1962 in India's defence history.

The Indian Navy's Multi-Purpose Vessel 'Samarthak' was launched as the first ship under a two-vessel project being constructed by L&T Shipyard. These vessels are designed for a variety of tasks, including towing ships, launching and recovering targets, and operating uncrewed autonomous vehicles. With a length of 106 meters and a width of 16.8 meters, these vessels can reach a maximum speed of 15 knots, enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy for multiple maritime roles.
