S Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, signed the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime on September 25, 2026. The convention aims to strengthen international cooperation in preventing and combating cybercrime and facilitate the exchange of electronic evidence related to serious crimes. It provides a common framework for areas such as international cooperation, investigations, extradition, and recovery of crime proceeds. The convention was adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 24, 2024. Its provisions will enter into force 90 days after the deposit of the 40th instrument of ratification, acceptance, approval, or accession.
