Alwar emerged as India’s first district to attain complete insurance coverage in line with the ‘Insurance for All by 2047’ vision. The milestone was achieved through extensive door-to-door surveys conducted across nine villages, which successfully identified and insured 1,367 previously uninsured residents aged ten years and above. This initiative forms part of the broader ‘Secure India–Insured India’ vision, which seeks to strengthen financial inclusion and provide comprehensive insurance protection at the grassroots level, ensuring social security and economic resilience for citizens across the country by 2047.

India will host the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championships 2027, scheduled to take place in New Delhi from December 1 to 10. The championship is significant as it will offer eight Olympic quota places for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. In the same year, New Delhi will also host an ISSF World Cup in April 2027, providing an additional 12 Olympic quota spots. These events fall within the LA 2028 qualification window and reflect India’s growing prominence in international shooting sports, building on its strong medal performance at Paris 2024.

The fully automated 30 mm ammunition facility was inaugurated in Nagpur at Solar Defence & Aerospace by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The event highlighted the government’s push toward strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing and achieving self-reliance in the sector. Emphasis was placed on increasing private sector participation beyond 50 per cent to build a robust defence industrial base. Gujarat introduced 14 advanced 1.5 Tesla MRI machines to strengthen diagnostic facilities in GMERS and Civil Hospitals across the state. The investment of ₹178.54 crore aims to improve access to high-quality healthcare services. Alongside this, the state inaugurated 31 development projects collectively valued at more than ₹348 crore in Kheda district. These projects cover key sectors such as irrigation, water supply, roads, and healthcare. The initiatives, including the launch of Fagvel taluka, reflect Gujarat’s focused approach toward integrated regional development and improved public service delivery.

World Interfaith Harmony Week is observed annually from February 1st to 7th, aligning with the first week of February. Proposed by Jordan in 2010 and later adopted by the United Nations, the initiative is rooted in the “Common Word” dialogue, which emphasises shared values across religions. The observance encourages individuals, institutions, and communities of all faiths to engage in dialogue and activities that promote mutual respect, understanding, and peaceful coexistence, while fully respecting and preserving the core principles and beliefs of each religion.

INS Sudarshini reached Salalah, Oman, as the first international port call under Lokayan 26, a ten-month sail training deployment of the Indian Navy. This visit underscores the strong maritime relationship between India and Oman and includes planned training exchanges with the Royal Navy of Oman, along with community outreach activities. Lokayan 26 is designed to showcase India’s rich maritime heritage while fostering goodwill, mutual understanding, and public engagement across the Indian Ocean region, reinforcing India’s role as a responsible maritime partner.

The 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project was commissioned in Assam by SJVN through its subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited. Developed at a cost of ₹367.44 crore over 330 acres, the project marks a significant step in expanding the state’s renewable energy capacity. It is expected to generate 141.13 million units of electricity in its first year and about 3,230 million units over a 25-year period. The project will supply affordable solar power at ₹3.92 per unit to the Assam Power Distribution Company, supporting clean and sustainable energy goals.

Karnataka decided to reintroduce paper ballots for both rural and urban local body elections, including Zilla and Taluk Panchayats as well as Greater Bengaluru civic polls. The decision, taken by the state cabinet led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, aims to enhance transparency and rebuild public confidence in the electoral system. This change will apply to all forthcoming local body elections in the state and will replace the use of electronic voting machines. To facilitate the shift, amendments to the Karnataka Conduct of Election Rules are to be introduced within a short timeframe.

IISc Bengaluru entered into a tripartite agreement with BEML and the Foundation for Science, Innovation and Development to promote advanced collaborative research in critical sectors such as aerospace, defence, and advanced manufacturing. The partnership is designed to accelerate blue-sky, applied, and translational research, with a strong emphasis on indigenisation and national self-reliance. By enabling shared access to research infrastructure and expertise, the collaboration aims to develop high-impact technologies that support India’s strategic and industrial capabilities while strengthening the country’s innovation ecosystem.

PLASTINDIA 2026 commenced in New Delhi as a major global event in the plastics sector, supported by multiple Indian ministries. The exhibition brought together over 2,000 exhibitors from around the world, showcasing cutting-edge innovations in plastics machinery, advanced materials, and circular economy solutions. With the theme “Bharat Next,” the event emphasised India’s future-ready industrial vision. Notably, it was India’s first Zero Waste plastics expo, featuring dedicated spaces for youth, startups, and a museum highlighting the positive role of plastics across key economic and social sectors.
