The packet switching has two approaches:.

1. Virtual Circuit approach (ex : WAN, ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), frame relay and telephone networks) are connection-oriented packet-switching 2. Datagram approach : like the internet which relies on connectionless datagram based packet switching.
