In a reservoir the average volume of sediment deposition is 0.15 million cubic per year. If the dead storage and total capacity of the reservoir are 8 million cubic metres and 36 million cubic metres respectively,
the reservoir will theoretically be silted in 240 years
the reservoir will start reducing after 60 years
both (a) and (b)
neither (a) nor (b).

Option (C) is write answer.

1. Reservoir capacity = 36 MM^3.

2. Dead storage capacity is 25% of reservoir capacity in a full life time of reservoir = 0.25 x 36 = 9 MM^3.

3. Reservoir silting period = 36/0.15 = 240 years.

4. Dead storage silting period = 09/0.15 = 60 years.

Total storage of 36 million cm.
So, 36/0.15 = 240 yr.
Hence 240/4 = 60 yr for dead storage.
Bcause dead storage is 1/4th of total.

Does it mean that the dead storage provided will not be used calculation?

Dead storage is given 8.
