Loaded with a central load W:
L/8 for I section.
L/3 for Rectangular section.
Loaded with a U. D. load :
L/root 3 for Rectangular section.

For the I section it may vary;
If you take shape factor 1.2,
It comes out to be L/6,
Lp= L(1-1/S).
If you take shape factor 1.2,
It comes out to be L/6,
Lp= L(1-1/S).

The shape factor of I section is 1.22 and the elastic-plastic zone length L = l(1-1/shape factor).
Then we gate the value of l/5 with the help of the above formula.
