E is an error. The staff reading component on the normal (true) axis will be +/- cos δ. Hence the expression governed by cosine values, that is Option A.

When theta is greater than delta then minus work out, the delta is greater than theta then plus.

I think the tilt angle of staff delta is positive when it's away from the tachometer and negative when towards tachometer.
