Bowditch rule = this rule is used to balance the traverse when angular and linear measurement are (equally) precise.

Transit rule = this rule is used when angular measurement is (more) precise than linear measurement.

Balancing is done by two methods 1 transit and 2 Bowditch.

If angular measurement are precise then transit method is used.

If linear measurements are precise than angular then Bowditch method is used.

If angular measurement are precise then transit method is used.

If linear measurements are precise than angular then Bowditch method is used.

In Bowditch method, both angular and linear are given equal precision.

In axis method, angular measurements are measured accurately and corrections applied to linear measurements only.

We can also do this by Bowditch and Empirical. I think option D is correct.
