Let Strength of each bolt = 100KN.

I. Critical state of 1st sec= (600/100) = 6.

--->600KN.

II. Critical state of 2nd sec = (600-100/100+100) = 2.5.

(since 100KN load is taken by 1st bolt, net load transferred to second section = 600-100).

III. Critical state of 3rd sec = (500-200/100+100+100) = 1.

Critical condition of a bolt = (load applied/strength of bolt.

Hence first section is critical section (6>2. 5>1).

1 in the first row, 2 in the second row and 3 in the last row.
For the first row, strength is due to the net sectional area and one rivet.

For second row strength is due to the net sectional area and 3 rivet 1 from the first row and 2 from other rows.

For third row, strength is due to the net sectional area and 6 rivet.

But net sectional area1> 2 >3.
