If the flange thickness of two column is different than before Uses of splice plate fill the gap of lower thickness with the filler plate.

Filler plates or shims or disc spacers are used to fill the gap to connect the beam or other structure to beam in order to bring it or raise it to the required height.

But what about bearing plates are they used or not?

Both bearing and filler will b used because bearing plate used as base plate and filler plates used as fill the material and to reduce the section dimension.

If the thickness of the upper plate is slightly less than the lower plate then we use a filler plate.

But when upper plate thinner & not able to take them in that case we use a bearing plate.
