Theoretically, a pure clay would have a value of 0° and Π would rise with increasing sand content and density to approximately 40° for a compact sandy loam soil. Loose sands range between 25 to 30°. As pure clays are rarely found in topsoils the typical value for a \'clay\'
soil would be in the range 5 to 10°

Angle of internal friction:

Rock 30°.
Sand 30-40°.
Gravel 35°.
Silt 34°.
Clay 20°.
Loose sand 30-35°.
Medium sand 40°.
Dense sand 35-45°.
Gravel with some sand 34-48°.
Silt 26-35°.

Option C correct.

If the clays are partial saturated and dry then it is said to be the angle of angle of internal friction >0, that is 20-28'.

For fully sat and pure clay angle of internal friction is 0.

Clays are cohesive soils and their particle size is in the range of microns, they have very less angle of internal friction. Ideally it should be 0 or in the range of 0-5. Answer is A.

Approximate maximum value of the angle of internal friction.
Rock- 30°.
Clay 20°.
Silt 34°.
Sand 30° to 40°.
Gravel 35°.

Yes, as far as I know clay has a least angle of internal friction compare to all soils. So it must be 0-5.

As angle of internal friction of clay is vary from 18 minimum and maximum 28 it is correct answer is B.
