So that angle is 45 degree.

Tan45= 1 so maximum shear stress at 45 degrees on the wedge of the horizontal plane.

Shear Stress= (P1-P2)/2 * Sin 2a,
For a = 45 , Shear Stress is max.
i.e. (P1-P2)/2.
