A rectangular channel 6 m wide and 3 m deep and having a bed slope as 1 in 2000 is running full. If Chezy's constant C = 54.8, pick up the correct specification of the channel from the following :
hydraulic mean depth = 1.5 m
Velocity of flow = 1.5 m/sec
Rate of flow = 27 m3/sec
All the above.

Let are be the hydrolic depth=1.5m.

S be the bed slope = 0.0005.

C is the chezys constant = 54.8.

Now we know that:

Velocity = 54.8*1.22*0.0005 = 1.5m/sec.

Discharge Q = a*v = 6*4*1.5 = 27.

Hydraulic radius = 1.5.
Hydraulic mean depth = (area/top width),
= 18/6,
= 3.

@Deep the way you find velocity is wrong.

The correct way to find velocity is v=c (mi) ^0.5.

And.

Rest of the all calculations are correct.

Hydraulic depth = area/top width.
H D= 6 * 3/6 = 3m.
But in answer is given hydraulic mean depth is 1.5m this one is hydraulic mean radius.

Wetted perimeter =2*h+b,
=2*3+6
=6+6.
P=12.

Hydraulic mean depth = area/perimeter.

R=a/p
R=18/12.
R=1.5.

V=c*r*s.
V=54.8*1.5*.0004.
V=1.50075m/s.

Q=a.v.
Q=18*1.5.
Q=27m3/s.

V = C * square root of RS.
V = 54.8 * square root of (1.5 * 0.0005).
= 1.5 m/s.

It is an opened channel so there is no one side length.
2b+L=p.

V = C(mi)^0.5.
m - hyd mean depth A/P.
i-slope.
Q = AV.

Perimeter of rectangular = b + 2h.

So, 6 + 2 * 3 = 12.
