For a short pipe head loss due to friction is considered but for long pipe head loss due to friction is ignored.

For a long pipe, minor losses are ignored and as we all know loss at the entrance, exit etc are minor losses.

The only major loss we consider is friction.

We cannot ignore major loss i.e. friction loss in a long pipe.
