Because head difference between free surface of water at point d and point c is 120-0 = 120.

When we assume the datum line is at point c.

Head difference between water level D and water level C is 120cm.

Water level at point D exceeds the water level at C by 40cm + 40cm + 40cm =120cm.

Point C is on the datum line.

When datum is assumed at point C then the total head at C = pressure head + datum head.
= 120 + 0 = 120.
But when datum is assumed at the top of soil A, then total head at C = total head at A + head loss(i*L).
= 0 + (40/80) * 80.
= 40.

So the answer should be both B and D.
