Kaolinite is a clay mineral, with the chemical composition Al2Si2O5(OH)4.

Rocks that are rich in kaolinite are known as kaolin or china clay.

Kaolin, Illite, Montmorillonite, Halloysite are the examples of argillaceous mineral. These are of clay origin. These minerals have plastic properties. Montmorillonite has the highest plasticity of this type and high specefic surface area compared to illite and least is kaolinite. Kaolinite is used in making china dish and mud pot etc.
