The use of adjacent* in the question, adjacent veneer implies the veneer just above it or below, if the fibres run at 90* then adjacent veneers can have a strong bond when glued unlike where fibres of adj. Veneers run parallel to each other. Each veneer is like a single plate of wood which has fibres/grooves in a certain direction.
