It is never Screw pumps because the flow rate needed for CDU (crude distillation unit) is sufficiently high and screw pumps give a very low flow rate. Centrifugal pumps are suitable for high flow rates and moderate pressures hence they are used to pump crude. Also crude is not that highly viscous that centrifugal pumps will be unable to pump it.

Centrifugal pump is correct answer.

It is a above ground drive for a submersible pump in a borehole. Used to raise crude oil from oil wells. Crude Oil generally has high viscosity, surface transfer pumps (centrifugal, plunger pumps, hydraulic pumps) they are always required to be geared or hydraulic to ensure positive displacement.

Dear Sir,

As Crude oil is considered as heavy whose gravity is generally high, how centrifugal can be used for it. In case of condensate, yes it can be used but this case would be specific not general. Please justify.

Crude oil pump or even the vacuum residue is pumped using a Centrifugal Pump. In refinery, 90% of pumps will be a centrifugal pump.

For Chemical injection purpose positive displacement pump is used.

Centrifugal pump is right answer because It's have high flow rate compared with positive displacement pump. For decrease the viscosity preheater are installed in pipe line.

Positive displacement pumps is not given high flowrate so It cannot use.

Because process is high flow rate required. So, we can use centrifugal pumps.

Crude oil is one of the viscous and dense products, with according to that reciprocating is appropriate.

For viscous oil, never use the centrifugal pump. Then how it is possible?

For high flow rate centrifugal pump is the right answer.

Centrifugal pump not suitable for heavy oils.
