Birmingham Wire Gauge - BWG - is also known as Stubs' Wire Gauge.

BWG is related to the thickness and not an area.

Lower BWG mean higher thickness.

Hence area of cross section decreased.

Lesser the BWG higher the thickness.

Because BWG is directly proportional to cross sectional area and inversely proportional to outer diameter.
