The answer given here is wrong. The Work done in adiabatic compression is more than isothermal compression.

Let me explain; Due to compression, we all know that there will be heat generation. Now in isothermal compression the heat which will get generated will be dissipated because the temperature has to be remain constant. But in adiabatic compression no heat flow will be there. So the heat which will get generated due to compression will increase the work done additionally to maintain the system. So work done will be more.

According to the P-V curve, the work done is more is the isothermal process.

So, the given answer is correct.

In the PV diagram, adiabatic curves have a steeper curve than isothermal curves, leading to a smaller area under the curve for adiabatic curves than isothermal curves, since by definition the compression-expansion Work dW=-Pext * dV, the smaller area corresponds to a lower Work for adiabatic curves than isothermal curves.

Hence, the work done in isothermal compression compared to that in adiabatic compression will be more.
