The true discount on Rs. 1760 due after a certain time at 12% per annum is Rs. 160. The time after which it is due is:
6 months
8 months
9 months
10 months
Answer: Option
Explanation:

P.W. = Rs. (1760 -160) = Rs. 1600.

S.I. on Rs. 1600 at 12% is Rs. 160.

Time = 100 x 160 = 5 years = 5 x 12 months = 10 months.
1600 x 12 6 6

Amount = S.I + P.

Here P = 1760-160 = 1600.

160 = 1600*12*t/100.

Which gives t = 5/6 years.

Now, 5/6*12 = 10 months.

On the amount of 1760/- he got T.D of 160/-
with rate of interest of 12%

So we can directly use the formula

T.D=(AMOUNT*R*T)/(100+[R*T])

Hari said:   1 decade ago
But formula should be

TD= (A*R*T)/(100+R)^t

isn't it??

Hi am Durga, I want to knowing about the solution & I don't know how can get the 5/6 for 160*100/1600*12.

5/6 is the fractional months so we have to convert it into a calendar month.

So, we can say that if 1 year is equal to 12 months then how much year or month is equal to 5/6 (In cross multiplication).
