Eight people are planning to share equally the cost of a rental car. If one person withdraws from the arrangement and the others share equally the entire cost of the car, then the share of each of the remaining persons increased by:
1
7
1
8
1
9
7
8
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Original share of 1 person = 1
8

New share of 1 person = 1
7

Increase = 1 - 1 = 1
7 8 56

zhey folks,
zeasy explanation for you:

Lets assume the Cab charges Rs. 560 ( multiple of 8 and 7).
So, per head cost shared initially = 560/8 = Rs. 70.

Now, in absence of one person, total person to share cab cost = 7.
Then share per head = 560/7 = Rs. 80.

Extra amount to be paid by each person = 80-70 = Rs. 10.
Therefore, ratio of extra amount paid = 10/70 = 1/7.

"then the share of EACH of the REMAINING persons increased by" so why the total increment of 1/56 is divided by the original share of one person? according to me it should be divided by new share of one person since question asking "EACH of the REMAINING persons ". Then the answer is 1/8.

If I have misunderstood the question or I'm wrong please correct me!

See according to the question the answer will be 1/56 in my logic.
now explain it-

Let the cost of car be 1 since we dont know the price of car.
Now it is divided equally among 8 people so each person's share=1/8
Then it is divided equally among 7 people so each's person share=1/7
So, increase in share of each person should be 1/7-1/8=1/56.

Example if Rs.30 is shared by six persons one's share = Rs.5 (1/6) if one person is withdraw from it then one person's share.

= Rs.6 (1/5).

Here there are 5 persons each one's share is increased by one rupee so the share of each one increased by 1/5 likewise here finally 7 persons each one share is increased by 1/7.

Let us assume the rent of the car is 80 Rs.

The rent is divided among 8 people then the share of each person is 10.

1 person is withdrawn the one person cost i.e 10Rs is divided among 7 people.
The divided amount is 10/7.

Hence all 7 persons get equal % of divided amount.
Hence the % is 10/7*80 = 1/7.

Let total cost beared by 8 be 64.
8-64
1 people have to bear 8 rupee
When one people withdrew
64÷7 = 9.243.
Additional cost = 9.243-8 =1.143.

Let's check the answer from the given option by converting it in %.
(1÷7)*100=14.3%.

And, as we get;
(1.143÷8)*100 = 14.3%.
Hence proved that 1/7 is correct.

Let take the arrangement cost is 64 rupees.
originally 8 person share is as each 8 rupees.
Due to one person withdraw the amount is divided as 64/7=9.1
i.e each one amount is increased by 1.1 instead of 8.

So from the question how it is calculated explain any one please?

Let the price be 56000/.

-----------------------> Initially Later
no. of persons -> 8 ----- 7
amount for each= 7000/- ----- 8000/-
increment for each = 8000-7000 = 1000/-
The actual share of each = 7000/-
The share of each is increased by = 1000/7000 = 1/7th.

@All.

Here is the calculation;
Assume the cost of the car be x. And equally distributed in 8 people, means 1 person has to pay x/8.
Now 1 person is back off, which means there are a total of 7 people remaining.
Now they've to pay the cost equally and it'll be x/7.

1/7 is correct.

We have to find the ratio of increase in share.
Ratio = increase in share / original share = (1/56) / (1/8) = 1/7.
7 people will have to share 1/56 per person more than before.
The ratio of increase in share = 1/7 (Ans)
