To fill a tank, 25 buckets of water is required. How many buckets of water will be required to fill the same tank if the capacity of the bucket is reduced to two-fifth of its present ?
10
35
62.5
Cannot be determined
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the capacity of 1 bucket = x.

Then, the capacity of tank = 25x.

New capacity of bucket = 2 x
5

Required number of buckets = 25x
(2x/5)

= 25x x 5
2x

= 125
2

= 62.5

It is told that if bucket is full(=1) 25 buckets are needed.
If bucket is 2/5 how much buckets would be needed- more or less?
Obviously answer will be more.
So in the following equation take the more value out of the two (i.e 1 & 2/5) in numerator.
1 ----- 25
2/5 --- ?
So 1 will come in numerator.
So answer will be 1*25/(2/5) = 5*25/2 = 62.5.

When you are confused what to take in numerator- ask the question-will answer be more or less.
Whatever ans. comes put that value(higher or lower in numerator).

Let's 1 bucket capacity = x.
So, 25 buckets capacity=25x.

Note : tank capacity is equal to the total number of buckets capacity)

So, we can say that 25x is called tank capacity.

Now fill the same tank, so tank capacity will be ;

Constant (25x), only change the bucket capacity which is reduced to 2/5x.

Note : tank capacity is equal to total number of buckets capacity)
2/5x capacity = 1 bucket.
25x capacity= ???.
25x÷2/5x = 62.5.

Simple explanation:

Let us assume tank capacity is 25 litres.

And each bucket has a capacity of 1 litre, which means 25 buckets is required to fill one tank.
Now each bucket capacity is reduced by 2/5 which means each bucket capacity is 0.4 litre
Now to fill a tank of 25 litre with 0.4 litre capacity bucket i.e 25/0.4 =62.5

Option C.

Let the capacity of bucket be 10Liters
They said that it requires 25 buckets to fill the tank

Therefore capacity of tank=25*10=250

If the capacity of the bucket is reduced to to 2/5th of original capacity then New capacity of bucket=(2/5)10=4litres

No. of buckets required to fill the tank=250/4 = 62.5

In the question, it is written that f "the capacity of the bucket is reduced to two-fifth of its present" which means;

If the present capacity is 100L and required 25 buckets to fill it.

Now it has been reduced to 2/5 i.e. 100*2/5 = 40L so now buckets required is 25*2/5 = 10 buckets.

Let the capacity of the tank be 100L.
25bucket fills 100L tank.

Therefore the capacity of each bucket is;
100/25 = 4L.

If the capacity of the bucket is reduced to 2/5th of before, then;
(2/5)*4 = 1.6.

To fill the tank of 100L=100/1.6.
= 62.5 buckets is required to fill the tank.

Let us assume the tank be 100 L.
For 100L tank, it takes 25 buckets
and the new dimension of the tank is 2/5 of 100 ie 40 L. so we don t know the no of buckets to be added.

100 L = 25 BUCKETS
40 L = X.

On cross multiplying, we get 10 buckets, then how 62.5 buckets came?

Let say 1 bucket holds 5 litre of water
So now its capacity is reduced to 2/5th i.e 5*2/5= 2 Litres

25 buckets fill the tank
Therefore, Tank's capacity is 25*5=625 litres.
Currently 1 bucket's capacity is 2 litres
Therefore buckets to fill 625 litres = 625/2=62.5

Consider bucket is of= 1ml.

The 25 bucket contain=25*1ml = 25ml.

If bucket reduced to 2/5 then to gain 25 ml we will choose one number which will give us required 25ml so,

2/5 * (62.5) = 25ml.

@All.
The solution is;

1 bucket = 2/5 x capacity.
X bucket = 25x capacity (because the total number of buckets capacity is equal to tank capacity)

So, 25x÷2/5x = 62.5.
