If 40% of a number is equal to two-third of another number, what is the ratio of first number to the second number?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let 40% of A = | 2 | B |
3 |
Then, | 40A | = | 2B |
100 | 3 |
![]() |
2A | = | 2B |
5 | 3 |
![]() |
A | = | ![]() |
2 | x | 5 | ![]() |
= | 5 |
B | 3 | 2 | 3 |
A : B = 5 : 3.

Let the two numbers be x and y.
Given 40%(x)=2/3 * (y).
Solving;
40/100*(x) = 2/3*(y),
2/5*(x)=2/3*(y),
x/y = 5/3= 5:3.
Given 40%(x)=2/3 * (y).
Solving;
40/100*(x) = 2/3*(y),
2/5*(x)=2/3*(y),
x/y = 5/3= 5:3.

Here, given 40% a number = another number 2/3.
we can assume first num = a , second num = b.
Now 40% a = 2/3b.
We have % convert to 40/100 = 2/5.
2/5a = 2/3b,
a/b = (5/2)*(2/3),
a/b = 5/3.
So, the answer is a:b = 5:3.
we can assume first num = a , second num = b.
Now 40% a = 2/3b.
We have % convert to 40/100 = 2/5.
2/5a = 2/3b,
a/b = (5/2)*(2/3),
a/b = 5/3.
So, the answer is a:b = 5:3.

Why we took 40% of number 40/100 instead of 140/100?

40A/100=2B/3.
Cross multily we get,
120A=200B,
A/B=200/1200.
A/B=5:3.
Cross multily we get,
120A=200B,
A/B=200/1200.
A/B=5:3.

40%=40/100*2/3(nothing but two-third),
divide by 20 you will get 2/5*2*3,
Cross multiplication.
10:6(both come in 2 table).
5:3.
divide by 20 you will get 2/5*2*3,
Cross multiplication.
10:6(both come in 2 table).
5:3.

Given 40% i.e 40/100 = 2/5;
New ratio 2/5 : 2/3 = 6/10 = 3/5.
New ratio 2/5 : 2/3 = 6/10 = 3/5.

40/100 = 2/3x.
x = 40/100 * 3/2.
x = 120/200,
x = 3/5,
= 5 : 3.
x = 40/100 * 3/2.
x = 120/200,
x = 3/5,
= 5 : 3.

2A/5 = 2B/3.
2A/5 ×15 = 2B/3×15,
6A = 10B.
A/B = 5/3.
2A/5 ×15 = 2B/3×15,
6A = 10B.
A/B = 5/3.
