Discussion Forum : Ratio and Proportion - General Questions (Q.No. 3)
3.
A sum of money is to be distributed among A, B, C, D in the proportion of 5 : 2 : 4 : 3. If C gets Rs. 1000 more than D, what is B's share?
Rs. 500
Rs. 1500
Rs. 2000
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the shares of A, B, C and D be Rs. 5x, Rs. 2x, Rs. 4x and Rs. 3x respectively.

Then, 4x - 3x = 1000

x = 1000.

B's share = Rs. 2x = Rs. (2 x 1000) = Rs. 2000.

The difference between the ratio of C and D is 1 but according to the question the difference is 1000, it means 1000 times than the shares of B 1000 times of the ratio given then the result 2000.

Its very simple as C gets 1000 more than D then C = D+1000.

Now as given the ratios are C/D = D+1000/D which equals to 4/3 = D+1000/D => 4D = 3D +3000 =>D = 3000, C = 4000 and B = 2000.

a = 5000.
b = 2000.
c = 4000.
d = 3000.

Then written it in the form of proportion,
5x, 2x, 4x, 3x then c gets more than 1000 then c = 4000 and x = 1000 then b = 2x.
So, 2[1000] = 2000.

A:B:C:D = 5:2:4:3
LET A=5000, B=2000 C=4000 D=3000
HERE C=4000 AND D= 3000 SO, C IS GETTING 1000 MORE THAN D
(CONDITION SATISFIED)
NATURALLY A=5000 AND B= 2000
SO, B'S SHARE =2000

Consider that 1000 as x;

C gets 1000 more than D;
C+1000 = D;
D - 1000 = C;
Ratio is 5x, 2x, 4x, 3x;
A = 5*1000 = 5000.
B = 2*1000 = 2000.
C = 4*1000 = 4000.
D = 3*1000 = 3000.

How to solve this problem? Please help me.

Divide rupees 500 between A, B and C so that A gets 2/3 of what B gets and B gets 1/4 of what C gets. Find the share of each.

According to the question:

C+1000 = D so we can write this:
4x/14+1000 = 3x/14.
After this equation we gets x = 14000.

For B: 2/14 *12000. And we get an answer B=2000.

The amount of C be 4x and amount of D be 3x difference equals to x equals to 1 thousand so x equals to 1000.

B equals to 2x equals to 2 * 1000 equals to 2000.
