The sum of three numbers is 98. If the ratio of the first to second is 2 :3 and that of the second to the third is 5 : 8, then the second number is:

Let,
X + Y + Z = 98 ---> (1)
X : Y = 2 : 3.
Then,
X/Y=2/3 =>3X=2Y
=> X = 2y/3 ---> (2)
Y:Z=5:8
then,
Y/Z=5/8 =>5Y=8Z =>z=5Y/8 ---> (3)
putting values of (2)&(3) in (1)
X + Y + Z = 98,
2Y/3 + Y + 8Y/5 = 98,
10Y + 15Y + 24Y/15 = 98,
49Y = 98*15,
Y = 1470/49,
Then Y = 30.
X + Y + Z = 98 ---> (1)
X : Y = 2 : 3.
Then,
X/Y=2/3 =>3X=2Y
=> X = 2y/3 ---> (2)
Y:Z=5:8
then,
Y/Z=5/8 =>5Y=8Z =>z=5Y/8 ---> (3)
putting values of (2)&(3) in (1)
X + Y + Z = 98,
2Y/3 + Y + 8Y/5 = 98,
10Y + 15Y + 24Y/15 = 98,
49Y = 98*15,
Y = 1470/49,
Then Y = 30.

For making B in the ratio equal.
A:B =5*2:3*5
B:C = 3*5:8*3
A:B:C become,
10:15:24.
Now let multiple ratio by x.
10x:15x:24x.
As given;
10x + 15x + 24x = 98
49x = 98.
x = 2.
Now the second no.is 15x.
So, 15x2= 30.
Therefore the Correct answer is B.

To get ratio as f:s:t we make s ratio equal in both multiply first ratio with 5 and second ratio with 3 then you will get 10:15 and 15:24 now we can write 10:15:24 and on adding them the result is 98 and we get x=2 and s=2(15)=30.

= 10 + 15 + 24 = 49.
for B = 98 * 15/49,

So, 3/C = 5/8 => C=24/5.
