In a bag, there are coins of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3. If there is Rs. 30 in all, how many 5 p coins are there?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the number of 25 p, 10 p and 5 p coins be x, 2x, 3x respectively.
Then, sum of their values = Rs. | ![]() |
25x | + | 10 x 2x | + | 5 x 3x | ![]() |
= Rs. | 60x |
100 | 100 | 100 | 100 |
![]() |
60x | = 30 | ![]() |
30 x 100 | = 50. |
100 | 60 |
Hence, the number of 5 p coins = (3 x 50) = 150.

@Tomoriba
How did you got 3/6*300 p =150,
It should be 3/6*3000p =150,
Here you multiplied 30 * 10 p which is wrong.
Shouldn't we multiply 30*1000?

Given ratios 1 : 2 : 3.
Therefore 3/6 * 300p = 150,
Here 6 we get by adding all ratios i.e( 1 + 2 + 3).
Therefore 3/6 * 300p = 150,
Here 6 we get by adding all ratios i.e( 1 + 2 + 3).

1/4*x + 1/5*x+3/20*x =30.
12x=30*20,
12x=600,
X=600/12=50,
No of 5p = 3(50) = 150.
12x=30*20,
12x=600,
X=600/12=50,
No of 5p = 3(50) = 150.

@Yhtsawakeviv.
Can you explain why 3 is multiplied here?
i.e No of 5p coins = 3x = 3*50 = 150.

We can simply write;
1/4x + 1/10 * 2x + 1/20 * 3x = 30
Then after multiplying and taking LCM.
5x + 4x + 3x = 30 * 20,
x = 600/12,
x = 50.
So, No. of 5p coins = 3x = 3*50 = 150.
1/4x + 1/10 * 2x + 1/20 * 3x = 30
Then after multiplying and taking LCM.
5x + 4x + 3x = 30 * 20,
x = 600/12,
x = 50.
So, No. of 5p coins = 3x = 3*50 = 150.

Then ,
The Questions asked that, find the value in coins of 5 paise
(3/12)*30.
=15/2 in ripped.
And in coins 15/2*20= 150 is the answer.

First convert 30rs to paise , ie 3000p.
Now, 25p:10p:5p = 1:2:3.
And given that, their sum is 3000p.
So, 25x + 10(2x) + 5(3x) = 3000 paise
60x = 3000
x=50.
So the value of 5p is 5*3*50 = 750.
But they asked No. Of 5p coins so, -> 750/5 = 150.
Now, 25p:10p:5p = 1:2:3.
And given that, their sum is 3000p.
So, 25x + 10(2x) + 5(3x) = 3000 paise
60x = 3000
x=50.
So the value of 5p is 5*3*50 = 750.
But they asked No. Of 5p coins so, -> 750/5 = 150.

Why they are equated to 30?
In problem, it is given that 30 rs in all, hence it would be equated to 90, right?

Ratio in amount in paisa 25:20:15.
No.of 5 paisa coins = (15x3000)/(60x5).
= 150 coins.
No.of 5 paisa coins = (15x3000)/(60x5).
= 150 coins.
