On selling 17 balls at Rs. 720, there is a loss equal to the cost price of 5 balls. The cost price of a ball is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
(C.P. of 17 balls) - (S.P. of 17 balls) = (C.P. of 5 balls)
C.P. of 12 balls = S.P. of 17 balls = Rs.720.

Let C.P for 1 ball = x;
S.P for 1 ball is = 720/17;
Loss = C.P of 5 balls = 5x (5x is overall loss).
For loss in 1 ball = 5x/17 .
Therefore,
C.P - S.P = loss(for 1 ball).
x-720/17 = 5x/17.
x = 60.
S.P for 1 ball is = 720/17;
Loss = C.P of 5 balls = 5x (5x is overall loss).
For loss in 1 ball = 5x/17 .
Therefore,
C.P - S.P = loss(for 1 ball).
x-720/17 = 5x/17.
x = 60.

17 balls selling we get 720.
Good.but loss is there, we don't know. It was given that out of 5 balls equals to loss c.p. i.e subtract 17 from 5 = 12, I want c.p of each ball so, 720/12 = 60.

Let,
Each Ball cost of price x.
We know,
Cost price - selling price = loss.
17x- 720= 5x,
Or, 17x - 5x= 720,
Or, 12x= 720,
Or, x=720 ÷ 12.
0r, x=60,
So, x=tk 60 cost of each ball.
Each Ball cost of price x.
We know,
Cost price - selling price = loss.
17x- 720= 5x,
Or, 17x - 5x= 720,
Or, 12x= 720,
Or, x=720 ÷ 12.
0r, x=60,
So, x=tk 60 cost of each ball.

Anil.. one doubt for me.
i clear about this problem., but in your explanation u said that SP is given for 17 balls = 720
So SP of 1 ball = 720/12
How it came?
SP of 1 ball = 720/17 na?

Hi, can anyone help me by solving this problem?
If the cost price of 10 chairs is equal to the selling price of 16 chairs, then the loss percent is?
a) 37.5%
b) 20%
c) 9.6%
d) 17.5%

SP of 17 balls = Rs 720.
CP of 17 balls = SP of 17 balls = CP of 5 balls (given).
Now simplify;
CP = 17-5= 12,
So, CP of 12 balls = SP of 17 balls = 720,
CP of 1 ball = 720/12 = 60.
CP of 17 balls = SP of 17 balls = CP of 5 balls (given).
Now simplify;
CP = 17-5= 12,
So, CP of 12 balls = SP of 17 balls = 720,
CP of 1 ball = 720/12 = 60.

Loss =CP - SP
let x be CP of one ball.
Hence CP of 17 balls = 17x
Given: Loss = CP of 5 balls = 5x
SP of 17 balls = 720 and
Now Loss = CP - SP
i.e 5x = 17x - 720
-12x=-720
x= 60
let x be CP of one ball.
Hence CP of 17 balls = 17x
Given: Loss = CP of 5 balls = 5x
SP of 17 balls = 720 and
Now Loss = CP - SP
i.e 5x = 17x - 720
-12x=-720
x= 60

We can also solve it as:
Let the CP of 1 ball be x. then,
CP of 17 balls will be 17x.
Given that: loss=CP of 5 balls i.e. 5x.
Therefore, CP-SP=loss =>17x-720=5x=>x=Rs 60.
Let the CP of 1 ball be x. then,
CP of 17 balls will be 17x.
Given that: loss=CP of 5 balls i.e. 5x.
Therefore, CP-SP=loss =>17x-720=5x=>x=Rs 60.

From the given info by adding 5 balls cp to the 17 balls sp which is 720, we will get cp of 17 balls.
Let X be cp of one ball.
= 720+5x = 17x,
12x = 720,
X = 60.
Let X be cp of one ball.
= 720+5x = 17x,
12x = 720,
X = 60.

Convert it to ratio for simplification.
S.p of ball : cp of balls.
17 : 5.
Loss then 17-5 = 12,
= 720/12,
= 60.
S.p of ball : cp of balls.
17 : 5.
Loss then 17-5 = 12,
= 720/12,
= 60.
