On selling 17 balls at Rs. 720, there is a loss equal to the cost price of 5 balls. The cost price of a ball is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
(C.P. of 17 balls) - (S.P. of 17 balls) = (C.P. of 5 balls)
C.P. of 12 balls = S.P. of 17 balls = Rs.720.

Loss = CP-SP
Acc to the ques
SP is given for 17 balls i.e 720
So SP of 1 ball = 720/12
let cp of 1 ball = x
loss = 5x (loss equals to the cp of 5 balls)
5x/17=x-720/17(loss for 17 balls)
5x/17 = (17x-720)/17
5x=17x-720
12x = 720
x=720/12
x=60

Anil.. one doubt for me.
i clear about this problem., but in your explanation u said that SP is given for 17 balls = 720
So SP of 1 ball = 720/12
How it came?
SP of 1 ball = 720/17 na?

Let cost price of 1 ball=x
then cost price of 17 balls=17x
loss is equal to 5 balls cost price(given in problem)=5x
selling price=c.p-loss=17x-5x=12x
but original selling price=720
.
. . 12x=720
x=60
c.p of 1 ball=60
then cost price of 17 balls=17x

We know,
CP-SP = loss.
Assume CP of 1 ball is Rs x.
17*x-720=5*x.
12*x=720.
X=60.

Its given.
(CP*17) - (SP*17) = (CP*5) its loss.
Selling 17 balls at Rs. 720, there is a loss equal to the cost price of 5 balls.
Now consider 1 ball's cost is "x".
(x*17) - (720) = (x*5).
17x-720=5x.
17x-5x=720.
12x=720.
x=720/12.
X=60.

Loss =CP - SP
let x be CP of one ball.
Hence CP of 17 balls = 17x
Given: Loss = CP of 5 balls = 5x
SP of 17 balls = 720 and
Now Loss = CP - SP
i.e 5x = 17x - 720
-12x=-720
x= 60
let x be CP of one ball.
Hence CP of 17 balls = 17x
Given: Loss = CP of 5 balls = 5x
SP of 17 balls = 720 and
Now Loss = CP - SP
i.e 5x = 17x - 720
-12x=-720
x= 60

Let us assume C. P of 5 balls be 'c'.
Then C.P of 17 balls 17c/5.
NOW, LOSS=C.P of 5 balls.
i.e., (C.P of 17 balls) - (S.P of 17 balls) = C.P of 5 balls.
(17c/5) - (720) = c.
(or) c = 300.
Any queries are welcomed ?

Let the C. P of 17 balls be x.
C. P of 1 ball is x/17.
S. P of 17 ball is 720.
S. P of 1 ball is 720/17.
Loss = (x/17) *5 (given loss = C. P of 5 balls).
Given in the problem.
5x/17 = x-720/17.
(formula:loss = C. P - S. P).
x = 1020.
Therefore C. P of 1 ball is x/17 = 60.
