A train 240 m long passes a pole in 24 seconds. How long will it take to pass a platform 650 m long?
65 sec
89 sec
100 sec
150 sec
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Speed = 240 m/sec = 10 m/sec.
24

Required time = 240 + 650 sec = 89 sec.

By adding 240+650, it says the distance travelled by the whole train to cross the platform.

Please solve this question.

A passenger train, 150m long.

Passage a railway platform 200 m long in 34 sec time taken by this train to pass a stationary man is.

Please help me anyone me to solve this question systematically.

Why we can't minus 240 and 650. Please. Help me to know when should we add and when should we minus?

What is the meaning of engine crossing in 65?

Please explain 240+650/10?

Hello guys.
W.k.t, speed = dist/time.

So on comparing,
Dist/time = dist/time.
240/24 = (240+650)/t.
t = (890/24)/240.
t = 89 sec.

Time taken by a train of length l meters to pass a stationery object of length b meters is the time taken by the train to cover (l + b) meters.

So its (650+240)/100.

I think that if they asked how long it will take to cross the pole and platform means 89 is correct but platform alone means 65 because speed of the trains 10m/s.

Given train distance is = 240 m.

Platform distance = 650 m.

Speed of train = 240/24= 10 m/s.

Let the platform be AB = 650 m.

And train length be CD = 240 m.

The time taken is 65 s for D of the train (the front part).

Thus for the train to completely pass i.e. C to pass the total distance is (240 + 650 m).

Thus time taken for the train to pass is 89 s.

I'm thinking that if it takes 24 seconds to cross 240 m.

Then it takes 48 sec s to cross 480 m with constant speed.

So it takes 240 m = 24 sec.

10 m = 1 sec.

To pass 650 m it takes 65 secs. I'm sure whether this is correct or not. I'm sure that question is not clear.

Yes it takes 65 secs for the front part of the train to reach the platform end but what we need to find is the time taken by the complete train to pass the platform.

i.e. we need to add the time taken to travel a distance equal to its own length.

i.e 65+(240/10) = 89 seconds. 65 seconds is definitely not the answer.
