A man is 24 years older than his son. In two years, his age will be twice the age of his son. The present age of his son is:
14 years
18 years
20 years
22 years
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the son's present age be x years. Then, man's present age = (x + 24) years.

(x + 24) + 2 = 2(x + 2)

x + 26 = 2x + 4

x = 22.

A man is 24 years older than his son.

Let us take son's age as X. So, father's age will be X+24.

In two years, son's age X+2.

Father's age X+24+2 = X+26.

His (Father's) age will be twice the age of his son.

X+26 = 2(X+2) (Twice the age of his son. So twice Son's age).

X+26 = 2X+4.

22 = X.

By solving, X = 22.

He said father's age will be twice not son's age.

If assume son age is x so father age will be 2x.

As we solved x = x+2 and x+2+24.

Please correct me?

In this question people solve this problem by taking x as a 2 year back when father (x) is 24 year more then son (y).

x = y+24.

After two years.

x+2 = 2(y+2) -----------equation 1.

Put x value in equation 1.

y+24+2 = 2y+4.

y = 22.

Why value is 2 year previous is 22?

So present age of son is 24.

Anyone please answer me,

They have asked present age of son right?

Then it must be (22-2) = 20.

Son age x,

Father age x+24,

After two year mean you will add 2 in both side.

(x+24+2) = (x+2).

Father age is twice as son age i.e. (x+24+2) = 2(x+2).

x+26 = 2x+4.

::22 = x.

But in question he asked present age of son so we have to subtract 2 the answer will be 20 right?

Son age x,

Father age x+24,

After two year mean you will add 2 in both side.

(x+24+2) = (x+2).

Father age is twice as son age i.e (x+24+2) = 2(x+2).

x+26 = 2x+4.

::22 = x.

@Maha.

Let the present age of son is x.

And as given in question the present age of father (f=24+x) and after 2 year later.

Father age = 2x.

In calculating the present age of son as given below as after 2 year.

24+x+2 = 2(x+2).
26+x = 2x+4.

So x = 22.

So because of x = present age of son, we have to add 2 year in present age of son and in this way we can calculate the value of x.

I hope you understand.
