A is two years older than B who is twice as old as C. If the total of the ages of A, B and C be 27, then how old is B?

Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let C's age be x years. Then, B's age = 2x years. A's age = (2x + 2) years.

(2x + 2) + 2x + x = 27

5x = 25

x = 5.

Hence, B's age = 2x = 10 years.

@Sri

b is twice old as c means.. c=b/2
b=2c

a=x;
b=x-2;
c=(x-2)/2;

a+b+c=27
x+x-2+[(x-2)/2]=27
[2x+2x-4+x-2]/2=27
5x-6=54
5x=60
x=12
b=x-2;
b=10 we got answer

Why we take c=x. Why we not take that a=x;.

Please explain.

@Sathya

We can take a = x also.

Whatever we take, answer 'll be same.

A=B+2....1 given
B=2C .......2 given
from statement 2 : C=B/2
total is 27
therefor
A+B+C=27
B+2+B+B/2=27
4B=50
B=10.

c=x
b=2x
a=2x+2
(2x+2)+2x+x=27
5x=25
x=25/5
x=5
b=2x
b=2*5=10

The population of town was 24000. If males increases by 6% and females by9%, it becomes 25620. Number of males and females are?- Please any one explain me...

NARESH said:   1 decade ago
Hi dude............
females(Y)=6000,males(X)=18000
x+y=24000........................(1)
(106/100)x+(109/100)y=25620.......(2)
by solving this 2 u get before increasing values..........
after increasing total number of females are (109/100)*6000=6540
after increasing total number of males are (106/100)*18000=19080
total is 25620

Hence proved(any doubts?)
