Six years ago, the ratio of the ages of Kunal and Sagar was 6 : 5. Four years hence, the ratio of their ages will be 11 : 10. What is Sagar's age at present?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the ages of Kunal and Sagar 6 years ago be 6x and 5x years respectively.
Then, | (6x + 6) + 4 | = | 11 |
(5x + 6) + 4 | 10 |
10(6x + 10) = 11(5x + 10)
5x = 10
x = 2.
Sagar's present age = (5x + 6) = 16 years.

Hi @Satyajeet.
It'll be (6x+6)+4/(5x+6)+4 = 11/10 because before 6 years the ratio was 6:5 but here we are taking after 4 yrs of present i.e past of 6 yrs + 4yrs (from present).
So it (6x+6)+4/(5x+6)+4 = 11/10.

Here, first, understand the question.
6year ago, the ratio of the ages of Kunal and Sagar was 6 : 5. --> it means that ration of both is given for 6years ago.
So that, the present age is 6x+6 and 5x+6.

Six years ago : x-6/y-6 = 5/6.
5x-30 = 6y-36.
5x-6y = -6-----equation 1.
Four years after: x+4/y+4 = 11/10.
10x-11y = 11y+44.
10x-11y = 4------equation 2.
By solving equations 1 and 2 we get y = 16.
5x-30 = 6y-36.
5x-6y = -6-----equation 1.
Four years after: x+4/y+4 = 11/10.
10x-11y = 11y+44.
10x-11y = 4------equation 2.
By solving equations 1 and 2 we get y = 16.

Lets take Kunal and Sagar's age as x & y.
6 years ago, x-6/y-6 = 6/5 --> 5x-6y+6 = 0 -> A.
4 years hence, x+4/y+4 +11/10 --> 10x-11y-4 = 0 ->B.
Solve A & B,
y(Sagars age) = 16.

4 years hence, x+4/y+4 +11/10 --> 10x-11y-4 = 0 ->B.
Solve A & B,
y(Sagars age) = 16.

8 years ago Bhanu age was four greater than Ravi age that time also of the ratio of Ravi age to Bhanu 8 years after will be 6:7 find the ratio of Ravi age to that of Bhanu age 4 years after.

Well in question they mentioned six years ago! so (6x+6) / (5x+6).
But they didn't mention that after 4 years from present age or from six years ago I hope the data given is insufficient.

Want to know if 6 years ago ratio of age is taken as 6x and 5x.
Then at last why ratio of age is taken only 11 and 10 in equation.
Its the ratio of age so should be taken as 11x and 10x.

They have mentioned that 6 years ago the ratio will be 6x+6/5x+6=6:5 and taking present age as a reference after 4 years the ratio is 6x+6+4/5x+6+4=11:10 So the answer will be 16 years.

All I understand but here the equation says 6 years ago and not after 6 years then how it can be x + 6. Can you explain why it could not be x - 6 when the question states the word 'ago'?

We are supposed to calculate his present age so before 6 years his age be (6x) so after 6 years his age turns to (6x+6). They also mentioned four years hence so it is (6x+6) + 4.
