Two tailors X and Y are paid a total of Rs. 550 per week by their employer. If X is paid 120 percent of the sum paid to Y, how much is Y paid per week?
Rs. 200
Rs. 250
Rs. 300
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the sum paid to Y per week be Rs. z.

Then, z + 120% of z = 550.

z + 120 z = 550
100

11 z = 550
5

z = 550 x 5   = 250.

Let the sum paid to Y be 100% and already given that sum paid to X is 120%.

Total sum = 550
120%+100% = 550
220%v= 550.

Then 100%=x.

x = 550*100/220 = 250.

Let y's payment be-> z and x's be -> 120% z.
x + y = 550
z + (120/100)z = 550.

By taking z out from the eqn,
z(1+(6/5)) = 550

=>taking LCM,
z((5+6)/5) = 550,
z(11/5) = 550,
z = (550*5)/11,
z = 250.

Therefore the payment is 250.

Let x + y = 550,
x = 120% of y,
1.2y + y = 550,
2.2y = 550,
y = 550/2.2,
y = 250.

Given :x + y = 550 ,
y = 550 - x,
x = (120*y)/100,
x = (120*550-x)/100,
x = 66000/220,
x = 300,
y = 550 - 300 = 250.

x + y = 550.
120% + 100% = 550,
6 + 5 = 550,
11 = 550,
550/11 = 50.
5 * 50 = 250,
So, answer = 250.

We are given:

Total pay for X and Y = Rs. 550.
X is paid 120% of what Y is paid.

Let Y's pay be Rs. y.
Then X's pay = 120% of y = 120/100 × 𝑦 = 1.2𝑦.

Step-by-step equation:
𝑦 + 1.2𝑦 = 550,
2.2𝑦 = 550.
𝑦 = 550/2.2 = 250.
