Two tailors X and Y are paid a total of Rs. 550 per week by their employer. If X is paid 120 percent of the sum paid to Y, how much is Y paid per week?
Rs. 200
Rs. 250
Rs. 300
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the sum paid to Y per week be Rs. z.

Then, z + 120% of z = 550.

z + 120 z = 550
100

11 z = 550
5

z = 550 x 5   = 250.

X is gaining 20% more than y.

X ------> Y
5 ------> 6.

5 + 6 = 11.
11>>>>>550.
1 >>>>>>50.
5 >>>>>>250.
( 6 is 120% of 5).

120:100 = 550 6:5 = 550.
6/11 = 300.
5/11 = 250.

X : Y = 120 : 100 --> 6:5.
Y's pay = (5/11)X550 = 250.

@All.

Actually, given X+Y=550,
X=120%=120/100=6/5,
Then 6/5+Y=550,
Denominator 5 then,
(6+5y)=550,
11Y=550*5=2750,
Y=2750/11=250.
