40% of apples sold.
Remaining 60% = 420.
Now,
40% =420 * (100÷60)* (40÷100).
=280,
Total apples = 420 + 280 = 700.

Let x be the apples.
x*40/100 = x-420.
x = 700.

700--------->100%,
70 ---------->10%,
=40%=4x70=280+420=700.

672--------->100%,
67.2 ---------->10%,
=40%=4x67.2=268.8+420=688.

600--------->100%,
60 ---------->10%,
=40%=4x60=240+420=660.

588--------->100%,
58.8 ---------->10%,
=40%=4x58.8=235.2+420=655.2.

So, the answer is 700.

60% = 420,
40% = x.

60/100*x = 40/100 * 420,
We will get x = 280,
Add 280 + 420 = 700(40%+60%=100%).

420 IS 60 PERCENT.
IF WE DIVIDE 100 by 5 we get 20.
so divide 420 by 3 we will get 20 per cent that is 140,
Now multiply 120 by 5 we get 700.

If you want to save your time in examination, you can just solve it by look at the options given,
There is 700 is available in option so take 40% of 700, which is 280, now.
700-280=420 (apples left).
So, originally fruit seller had 700 apples.

@Aparna.

It should be;
45x/100 +(30*90/100) = 30*210/100,
45x+(30*90) = 30*210,
45x = 30(210-90),
9x = 6*120,
X = 80.

Simply, the solution is;

100 - 40 % of x = 420,
60/100*X = 420.
X = 420 * 100/60 = 700.

60% = 420.
1% = 420/60
100% (pure apple) = (420/60) * 100,
= 700 ans.
