As he sold 40% apples out of 100%.
It means he now has 60% apples, which are 240.
now 60/100 = 0.6.
240/0.6 = 700.
700 apples.
It means he now has 60% apples, which are 240.

240/0.6 = 700.

Assume that total apples=100%.
if he sells 40% of apples=100%-40%=60%(apples left).
He still has 420 apples left,
i.e, 60%= 420.
Therefore , if 60% = 420.
Then 100%= ?
100 * 420/60 = 700.
