Gauri went to the stationers and bought things worth Rs. 25, out of which 30 paise went on sales tax on taxable purchases. If the tax rate was 6%, then what was the cost of the tax free items?
Rs. 15
Rs. 15.70
Rs. 19.70
Rs. 20
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the amount taxable purchases be Rs. x.

Then, 6% of x = 30
100

x = 30 x 100 = 5.
100 6

Cost of tax free items = Rs. [25 - (5 + 0.30)] = Rs. 19.70

@Scarlet.
Lets consider x is CP of chair and 400-x is CP of Table

(x*90/100)+((400-x)*110/100) = 400 *105/100.

Solve the above equation u vl get x=100.
So chair cost is 100.

Let x be the cost on which we are applying tax.

Then x*5/100=30/100 (30 paisa is now 30/100 rs).

x=5rs, on which we give tax.

And the tax is 0. 30rs.

So the total amount deducted will be 25- (5+0. 30) =19. 70.

Let the amount taxable purchases be Rs. N.

Then, 6% of N =30/100
6/100 *N = 30/100 , then N=5.

Now we have to take the tax on 5Rs i.e.. 6%of 5.
That equals to , = (6/100)*5 = 0.30.

Therefore Cost of tax free items = Rs. [25 - (5 + 0.30)] = Rs. 19.70.

Amount of which item purchased = Rs.25.
Some portion of amount comes under taxable amount...let it be X.

Total amount given = tax free amount + taxable amount + sales tax on taxable amount.

It is clearly mention in the question that, sales tax is on taxable amount.
Therefore, 6%(taxable amount) = 30/100.

Taxable amount = Rs. 5.
Sales tax= Rs. 0.30.
Total tax free amount= Rs. 19.70 i.e.(25-5.30).

Bought things worth = Rs. 25.00.

Than 25 = 30*100/6.

=500/25 = 20.

When .30 paise went on sales tax on taxable purchases.

Than = 20-0.30 = 19.70 , Option (C).

or

6% of X = 30/100 ( when .30 Paisa = Rs.30/100).

Than x = 30*100/6*100 = 5.

Hence Rs. [25 - (5+.30)].

= 19.70 ,Option (C).

It is like this:

Total amount available for purchase after tax is (25-0.3) Rs 24.7.

Let taxable purchase be x.

Now, 0.06x =0.3 and x = 5 (taxable purchase).

Now tax free purchase will be 24.7-5 which is equal to Rs 19.70.

Hope it is clear. Cheers!

If x is the total value of the amount paid.
Then 6 Percent of x = 30 paise as per the given data.

This implies 6/100 * x = 30 / 100 Rs.
Therefore x = 5Rs.

Adding 0.3 to 5 = 5.3 Rs = Total sales tax on all purchases.

Cost of all item (taxable + Non Taxable) = 25Rs.

Therefore amount paid on Non Taxable Items = 25-5.3 = 19.7Rs.

6% is equal to 30 paise.
60% is equal to 300 p.
90% is equal to 450 p.

Remaining is 10% ok in 10 % (6 % is 30 p) so remaining is 4%
4% is equal to 20 p.

Now we add all paisas 450+30+20 = 500 paisa it is equal to 5 rupees ok.

So tax rate is 5 now we subtract it from original price 25-5 = 20.

From 20 we subtract basic tax is 20 - 0.30 = 19.7 rupees.

Total tax = 30 paisa = 0.3 rupees.

Amount for which this tax is imposed, can be calculated as:

If tax is 6 rupees then amount = 100.

If tax is 1 rs then amount = 100/6.

If tax is 0.30 rs then amount = 100/6*0.30 = 5.

Now tax free amount = 25-(5+0.30) = 19.70.

Note, we added 0.30 in 5 to find the total amount along with tax and then subtracted from 25 to get tax free amount.
