Discussion :: Partnership - Data Sufficiency 2 (Q.No.2)

Each of the questions given below consists of a question followed by three statements. You have to study the question and the statements and decide which of the statement(s) is/are necessary to answer the question.

2.

What is R's share of profit in a joit venture? I. Q started business investing Rs. 80,000. II. R joined him after 3 months. III. P joined after 4 months with a capital of Rs. 1,20,000 and got Rs. 6000 as his share profit.

[A]. All I, II and III [B]. I and III only [C]. II and III only [D]. Even with all I, II and III, the answer cannot be arrived at [E]. None of these

Explanation:

From I, II and III, we get P : Q : R = (120000 x 8) : (80000 x 12) : (x x 9).

Since R's investment is not given, the above ratio cannot be give. Given data is inadequate.

Tarun said: (Aug 6, 2011) But P's share is given. So we can calculate the value of x by using 12000*8/(12000*8+8000*12+9x) = 6000.

Shahida said: (Dec 2, 2013) Please give clear explanation. How can write 1200000*8 and 80000*12?

Harshit Dahiya said: (Dec 27, 2013) Answer should be A. Since, the profit of P is given we can find out x i.e, R's investment. Please reconsider your explanation.

Heisenberg said: (Jan 3, 2014) Answer could not be found because both the duration of investment and the amount invested by R is not given.

Ritika said: (Sep 29, 2014) Why we multiply 120000*8 and 80000*12 and x*9?

Kanhaikumarsingh123@Gmail.Com said: (Dec 12, 2014) Answer should be A, because profit of is given and value of x is easily calculated.

Dean said: (Apr 13, 2015) None of these. Because using 2 & 3 as well as using 1, 2 & 3 we can reach the answer. So option E, not because of inadequate of data but of other options are not suitable.

Sumit said: (Aug 2, 2015) Consider a 1 year investment and you can easily find out x by the equation discussed above. So answer should be (A).

Amit said: (Aug 16, 2015) How total time period is assumed one year as it was mentioned in the question?

Milu Sahu said: (Nov 14, 2015) How to calculate?

Sharma Ak said: (May 3, 2016) It's confusing. How to find the solution?

Ari said: (Aug 30, 2016) Answer is A. As we can calculate x from given share of p. As x is the only unknown variable here.

Amaresh said: (Sep 4, 2016) Given answer is correct. Profit percentage also depends on the duration of investment which is not given. So we cannot calculate the required thing.

Nilu said: (Sep 10, 2016) P joining after 4 months so in 12 months - 4 months he gets 8 months profit. Likewise, Q gets 12 months and R gets 9 months profit.

Santhu said: (Sep 6, 2017) They did not give time period, how can you assume its one year?

Shailesh said: (Dec 2, 2017) Answer must be A.

Rishi said: (Feb 23, 2018) I am not getting this! Why you multiple 12000 by 8?

Wrick said: (Nov 12, 2018) Here, Total profit is not mentioned so the answer can't be determined.
