1.
A and B invest in a business in the ratio 3 : 2. If 5% of the total profit goes to charity and A's share is Rs. 855, the total profit is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the total profit be Rs. 100.
After paying to charity, A's share = Rs. | ![]() |
95 x | 3 | ![]() |
= Rs. 57. |
5 |
If A's share is Rs. 57, total profit = Rs. 100.
If A's share Rs. 855, total profit = | ![]() |
100 | x 855 | ![]() |
= 1500. |

Easy method A's share 3part = 855.
So one part of A = 855/3 = 285.
Now B's share = 285*2 = 570.
So 95% of profit = 1425.
100% share = 1425/95*100 = 1500.
So one part of A = 855/3 = 285.
Now B's share = 285*2 = 570.
So 95% of profit = 1425.
100% share = 1425/95*100 = 1500.

Let total profit be Rs. 100 .
A's share,if profit is Rs. 100 = [95*3/5]=Rs.57.
If A's share is Rs.855,profit = ?
VARIATION
Share | Profit
Rs.57 | Rs.100
Rs.855 | x
Direct Variation:
855/57 * 100 = x.
x = Rs.1500.
Total Profit = Rs.1500.
A's share,if profit is Rs. 100 = [95*3/5]=Rs.57.
If A's share is Rs.855,profit = ?
VARIATION
Share | Profit
Rs.57 | Rs.100
Rs.855 | x
Direct Variation:
855/57 * 100 = x.
x = Rs.1500.
Total Profit = Rs.1500.

I will agree with you for taking the total profit to be 100.
But if we verify the answer.
A's share = 3/5*1500 = 900.
But there in question A's share of profit = 855.
In the given options if we take total profit = 1425.
The A's share = 3/5*1425 = 855.
1425 should be the answer in my view.
Anyone reply me if I am wrong.

Can it be done like this instead of assuming that total profit = 100.
a:b = 3:2.
Profit of a = 855.
Total profit of the firm = 855*5/3 = 1425.
I don't know why it is wrong.
a:b = 3:2.
Profit of a = 855.
Total profit of the firm = 855*5/3 = 1425.
I don't know why it is wrong.

Total 100.
95 for A & B which is shared by 3:2.
i.e. 57:38.
In 100 A get 57 so if we cross multiply we will get 1500.
i.e.
100*855/57.

Let total profit is x rs.
Then remaing profit (x-x*5/100).
= 95x/100.
A's profit is 3/5*95x/100.
= 57x/100.
But A'shares of profit is given as 855 so 57x/100 = 855.
x = 1500 that is total profit.
Then remaing profit (x-x*5/100).
= 95x/100.
A's profit is 3/5*95x/100.
= 57x/100.
But A'shares of profit is given as 855 so 57x/100 = 855.
x = 1500 that is total profit.

A's Share is 855 i.e. From that ratio 3:2.
3 is 855.
We need total so add the ratio value 3+2=5.
Using proportional method,
3 855
5 x
3x=5*855 => x=1425.
This 1425 is 95% we need 100% so use same method,
95 1425
100 x
95x=100*1425 =>x=1500.
3 is 855.

Why we are taking 100/57 at last step, No one tell above?

3/5X = 855.
X = 1425.
If 95% = 1425.
100% = 1500, so simple.
X = 1425.
If 95% = 1425.
100% = 1500, so simple.
